Australian shepherd/border collie mix question

My first dog was a border collie/aussie mix. She was the best dog I've ever owned. I think her total weight was around 50 lbs, less than that in her younger years, she porked up as she aged. That mix is my dream dog, and I will own one....or two...again one day. Just be aware they need a job or your house will be in shambles. I was lucky that Hayley saw a husky fetch a ball early on, and she was hooked the rest of her life. Every. Single. Day. Every. single. minute. we threw that ball, but it kept her happy. Enjoy if you choose to get one.

My mom has one, she's 35-40lbs. Very active, not nearly as smart as the other 3 Aussies. She got the instincts, but no creative brain power at ALL. Paisley is great with our family, but very very wary of strangers. Got the prettiest smile! LoL

35-40 pounds for a female somewhat larger for a dog. Do not get this pup unless you have the time or space to devote to it. Such a mating will produce a high energy work oriented animal. Without a job they can become quite destructive. Given a proper environmet they can be a great dog.

In my experience (co-owning, going to disc dog events, etc), Aussies are VERY vocal.

Nessie our Aussie is on the smaller side probably weighing around 35-40 lbs. Our border collies are bigger, and our BC puppy's father is 75lbs!

They are bred to be very high energy, either for working with livestock or for sports (both breeds), as many others have said. I love them to death but they are annoying too...they just want to GO GO GO GO GO constantly. We will be sitting on the couch and they will bring us toy after toy after toy. Tartan the border collie does laps around the house. This is after he and Nessie have played frisbee and ran around outside for a good part of the day. They like to have a job to do and they like to "help".

I think they are great dogs, I think you could find one that is on the smaller side, but I don't know if it'd be a good fit for an apartment unless you are into distance running 3 times a day.

I agree with everyone else. They are not good apartment dogs. They are working dogs and are smart and active and need lots of exercise to keep them happy and out of trouble.

My fiance and I just got a 8 week old Aussie border collie mix. I have always had dogs but never this breed. So far he is throwing me a curve ball. He does not act like any puppy I have ever seen. He is very independent and is taking control of us already. Given it has only been few days but I feel like we are loosing the power. He nips nonstop and doesn't seem to respond to anything. Please help

If I was queen of the world... I would declare that BC's are not pets. They are working dogs and need lots of space and a J O B. they can become quite miserable if they do not have full a full time job. This can manifest in many undesirable behaviors.

I have a border aussie mix. His name is Chase and we got him in august of 2015. He weighs around 95 pounds.
Here is a picture of him from april of this year
