Hello Everyone! I am brand new to BYC. This is also my first hatch. When these babies were fertilized I had only 8 hens and one rooster. My Rooster is an Australorp. For hens I had 4 Buffs, 2 RIRs, 1 Barred Rock, and one Unknown. To my knowledge, None of these look like Buff or RIR crosses. Below I posted pictures of the chicks, my Rooster, My Barred Rock, and my unknown. I am like 90% sure that what I have are Sex-Linked Hybrid Hens. But because of my 1 unknown, I am 10% is unsure. What do you all think? Does anyone know the breed of my unknown girl?

Your unknown looks like she has some sort of lacing but splashed. Maybe a wyandotte/splashed austrolorp. Did your rooster and that other hen have her??? or did she come with them

The mystery hen looks like a sliver laced Wyandotte mix to me, but could be some other cross. She will not produce sex linked chicks with an Australorp male.

Only the babies with the barred rock mother will be sex linked. This is due to the barring gene. Female barred birds carry on gene for barring. When crossed with a non-barred male, she will always pass her barring gene down to males, and never to female chicks.

So any chick with a white spot on the back of its head will be male, but some of your chicks may not be sex links if they came from a hen other than the barred rock.

Rooster came alone. My Barred Rock and Mystery mix came from my moms farm. The babies all look identical. It's really hard to tell them all apart.

I know how the sex-link works. All of them are identical. And none of them have a white spot on their head. They all look like penguins. 🤣 Im almost certain they are cross with my Barred Rock. I guess time will tell when those feathers start coming in. TY!
