Should her eggs be larger? They are smaller than my RIR of the same age.
Could the fact that she only started laying 4-5 weeks ago, and it's cold, be the reason such a big girl lays an unimpressive egg?
I love her anyway

I have a black australorp who it seemed took several weeks to get past the pullet size egg . . . she molted maybe 3 months into laying, and when she started laying again after her first molt, her eggs were darker and much larger. Who knows . . . give it time.

How old were your Australorps when they started laying?? Mine are 23 weeks, VERY red in the face, and clucking away. No squatting yet. Help!

She was later than my RIR of the same age, I'd say somewhere around 18-19 weeks.
She got red in the face about 2 weeks prior, she squatted about 2 weeks before also.
She lays most days, a pale tan, slender, medium sized egg. I noticed her yolks are more richly colored than my other two girls.

I wish I'd had a covered nest box for her as she wants a more private place to lay, I will have to work on that.
One afternoon after she just started laying she was restless, and trying to go under my RIR's breast. I picked her up and tucked her head under the front of my coat to calm her. It did the trick, she seemed to like it, fluffed up, didn't struggle to get away, and then laid her egg in my lap! Silly chickens...

Have patience, it's almost time
