awning window hardware

We're building our first chicken coop and planning to install awning-style windows in the hen house. Of course we'll cover the opening with hardware cloth. We're building our own window frames with plexiglass, and planning to hinge them at the top so they will open at the bottom. We're having trouble finding any hardware to hold the windows open. Is this just too old fashioned? Should we simply use a stick to hold the windows open at the bottom, sort of like the stick that holds the lid open on the piano? Any suggestions appreciated!

I actually got some of those curved metal "closer" things you see used on toy chests to keep the lid from slamming on kids' fingers. Found them on clearance at Lowe's for not much money. If you put them about halfway up the window frame (or higher if you want them to open out further) you wind up with an adjustable awning window with a pretty good range of motion. They hold well even in windy conditions. I thought about using a stick but was afraid it would just fall out and slam the window shut. Before I found these I did think about hingeing a 1x2 inside the window frame so it could be folded up when you wanted the window closed and wouldn't drop out when it was open. I'm really glad I found these closers though since I can have the windows open as wide as I want them. Sorry I don't have pics but I hope this helps.

Is the window going to be under the roof overhang? Could it be hooked from above like with a hook/eye or even a small chain?

transom window hardware. use the rod and the little spring loaded latch thingie on the end. mount the spring holder on the sill and attach the rod to the window.

Thanks so much for your help! Yes, the window will indeed be underneath the roof overhang, so we may use the hook-and-eye trick from the rafters. We can also look for the toy chest hardware. I'll post photos when I can figure out how.
