The baby should instinctively start to peck at food at the point where its ready to fledge. Millet is generally an excellent first food and a little soaked seed is also good to offer initially. You can use your fingers to 'peck' at it and rub it between your fingers as if they are your beak and you are eating it. That can encourage them to explore it. As soon as it is in a proper cage and perching well provide a dish of water.

Keep me updated please. Your baby is a lot cuter than my naked Java finch babies were (but I still got very attached to them and thought they were the cutest things).

Thanks a lot I will today I bran in another canary from the bunch as it seemed way smaller than the rest and quite late with its feathers when I put it next to the one I got the other day it's small I'll try hand rest this one too

I'm wandering why this baby canarie is staying with its mouth open it seems to be the biggest what could be wrong? Too hot?

If it's panting them I'd say it's too hot. It may also just be that it associates you with food and is considering begging (even if it isn't hungry).

They are cuties. Are your canary pair first time parents? I'd say, like most birds, it takes them a few tries to get into the swing of being good parents.

I'm not sure they are all in a house outside canaries finchies and right now they all want to breed like crazy they most likely are but all my birds throughout the year when they've had a baby it has never lived long either dissapese fall out it's best just die however this week one lasted long to where it can fly ish but its mum abounded it on the coldest windies day so we decided to not take risks anymore and care for them ourselves it's the only choice atm but they are doing great

What age could my canaries be right about now I'd say somewhere between 16 and 17 but since I dont know their hatch date I need help to whem to wean them and offer seeds and such and when to stop the formula

If they are perching I'd start to offer seeds. They start to investigate food once they fledge, and they look pretty close to leaving the nest. I used to put a bit of millet spray in the nest with them to start to pick at. Keep feeding the formula until they are no longer interested. They may start to drop the midday feed first but let them decide.

They are looking so gorgeous! Are you going to keep them all or find homes for them?
