So I have a rooster who is mixed with a silkie and a kikiriki hen. He has 5 toes and feathered feet on both legs because of his silkie side. I recently bred him with a kikiriki hen who has 4 toes, and no feathered feet. I was only able to get one chick out of it but the chick came out with 4 toes and no feathered feet. Why? Everyone always says that 5 toes and feathered feet are dominant traits so why did my chick come out with none of that?

Although 5 toes and feathered feet are the dominant traits he is not pure for them (he carries the genes for 4 toes and clean feet according to your genealogy report and the otherwise recessive traits are hidden).. so when bred to 4 toes and clean feet.. approximately half his chicks would also get 4 toes and clean feet.. since you only got one to hatch.. a larger sample size might show more offspring with 5 toes and feathers.. According to my current understanding.

Your rooster may have the dominant traits of five toes and feathered feet but he is carrying the recessive trait of 4 toes and non-feathered feet.

Could the hen have been bred by a different rooster in the last 6 weeks?
Nope, she’s been with my rooster only for months now. But I guess I saw wrong because I checked the baby again when it fluffed up and it does indeed have feathered feet. Just not the extra toe

I double checked when the chick fully fluffed up after removing it from the incubator and it does have feathered feet. Just not the extra toe. Also yes my rooster does carry the genes for 4 toes and clean feet because he comes from my little kikiriki hen who had 4 toes and clean feet
