Hi

Hoping you can help me . The baby chick has a leg that doesn’t touch the ground . Is this something that can be fixed by taping the legs together

Hi,

Taping the legs together is usually for splayed legs which this little chick doesn't have, but perhaps could work, but if it were mine, I'd give it another day or two to see if it rectifies itself. I'd do a little bit of gentle leg therapy as well, trying to see if she can be made to step down with her foot. Giving her another day or two may just give her enough time to be able to get more strength in it and be fine. If not, she's perhaps got something wrong with her hip or a slipped tendon. This is a good article about a slipped tendon.

I would put some Nutri-Drench in their water too. We've got liquid B-complex that I'd give her 1/4 dropperful of, directly. If you have some adult B-complex pills, you could grind one into six parts and give her one part in a small amt of wet crumbles so she'd eat it all. One part of that per day.

It looks to be just a couple of days old. If it were mine, I'd give it another day or two to see if it rectifies itself. Giving her another day or two may just give her enough time to be able to get more strength in it and be fine. If not, you could try the leg binding to see if it causes it to start using it.

Thank you for coming back to me.
Yes, she is only a few days old.
I will give it another day or two and see if the leg drops .
It seems to have drop a bit, when I first saw the leg earlier this week it was sticking out at a 90 degree angle , but today it has dropped & seems closer to the ground.
While I’m waiting l’ll get some Nutrient-Drench and do a bit of massage on the leg
Not giving up yet !
