So this morning I went outside to see my chickens and I notice that one of my hens has a baby chick under her, I knew she was broody but im not exactly sure when she started, so the first day when I noticed she was broody, I just marked her as day 3 and counted from there the hatch date. If im correct, today should be day 19 for the eggs but one already hatched and no others which is normal, it’s still early. Anyway, I left the chick with the mom for the day and about two hours ago, I bring it in because I wanted to give the moms a chance to finish hatching the rest. Anyway, I bring it in and it just has its eyes closed, it does open them when I move the chick but it mostly keeps them closed, it also raises its head up when I pick him up. I gave it water and it drinks but then starts to lift its head up and opens and closes its mouth. I offered it food but it doesn’t even look at it. It just lays there with its eyes closed. Should I be concerned or is this maybe because it just hatched and isn’t very active yet? It does peep like normal and has healthy chick peeps, not distressed peeps. I’m thinking maybe it’s just like this because it’s a fresh born baby. I’m going to put him under the heat lamp with the other chicks and see how it does tomorrow. What do you guys think?

Give it some time. Definitely keep it warm, maybe put it in a special box within the brooder (I assume that's where the other chicks are) so it is not trampled.
