Hello everyone! I had a Rhode Island Red egg hatch today about 3 hours ago. This egg took over 24 hours to hatch, and when it came out its leg was turned outward and is very very stiff. The chick cannot move it, will this stiffness go away? Can I correct this in any way? Thank you in advance for your help!

Hopefully this is able to be fixed, I just had to put a chick down due to severe deformity of the bones in her leg. I wouldn’t give up on this chick just yet though. How is it today? Is it able to walk at all?

Unfortunately not, the leg is completely stiff :(

Is it only one leg that's "stiff"? Have you tried moving it? Could you take a picture of both legs; hold chick on its back with both legs up. Is it moving around?
Unfortunately the chick didn’t make it :( he passed away early this morning :(. I did try moving the leg last night and it wouldn’t move at all. The only leg it would move was it’s other leg that was fine

Unfortunately the chick passed away early this morning :( it would try hobbling around but would just fall over because it couldn’t use the other leg.

I’m so so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately sometimes it’s better that nature takes its course, it doesn’t prolong the suffering any longer. Thank you for trying to figure out how to help this little one. Sometimes they just don’t make it. 😭Hugs for this sad time. :hugs
