Hey ya'll!
TLDR: I'm not new to poultry by any means. I have shown off and on since 2007, and owned all sorts of mutts and fluffy butts since the early 90's. I'm fifth (possibly sixth?) generation crazy chicken lady. Due to life changes (Covid, mostly) I sold all of my birds and have been waiting on the right time to dive back in. My mother and brother some of my remaining bloodlines, and I'm looking forward to getting some of those back.
I've had a little of everything over the years. Pheasant, Chukar, Quail, Chickens, Geese, Ducks, Pigeons, you name it. At my peak I had over 3,000 (yes, you read that right) birds in my care at one time. It was a full time job just to care for the poultry. When my son was born I dialed back drastically, and over the next three years that dwindled down to the cancellation of my flock. I was busy with a lot of personal life changes, moving cities and careers, and I just didn't have time to continue the care of my birds properly.
Recently I found out my family will be moving to a property in a completely different state. We will be leaving Texas behind, and moving to Kansas. Big change! I am going to be getting back into chickens once we get settled in a couple of weeks. The property comes equipped with tons of flower beds, a garden, and a chicken coop already there. It's small but it will fit our needs.
I'm looking forward to catching up with old friends, meeting new friends, and catching up on everything that has changed in the poultry world in the last few years. I'm hoping to get some mottled Java once we get moved, but we shall see what we end up with.
