Bantam Duck Page

Thank you for all of your helpful tips. What about food, I would assume that any duck food would do, right? and how big of enclosure do they need?
All it takes is some searching and reading on ll the threads on this site and you won't have to ask questions like this. Some people have gone to a lot of trouble to get information up for you and I, it's just a matter of find it.

Hi everyone! I`m not sure this is the right place to post this, but since it pertains to call ducks, I thought this might be a good place to ask.

So I got a pair of white call ducks about 2 months ago and they're currently living in a large dog kennel. I`m feeding them flock raiser and corn. The hen just started laying about a week ago and everything was fine until yesterday when she started holding her wing wrong. She seems fine other than her wing, but I don't know whats wrong. Any suggestions?

It could either be an injury or Angel Wing. I'm not sure what causes Angel Wing, but you can google it.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it could possibly be angle wing cause she's an adult and was fine before. I Gave her some extra calcium and she seems to be getting better. :) hopefully it was just a calcium deficiency or something.

She injured the wing somehow. Angel wing is a whole different thing.

Hey I have a question about the Snowy and the Grey Genes. I used the calculator for ducks and found out when I breed a Grey to a Snowy I will get all Greys that are "split" to Snowy then I take those babies and breed them to my Snowys and it said I'd get 50% Snowy and 50% Grey. Do you think that this is a smart idea to do. The whole idea behind it is to improve the type of the Snowys.
what calculator

I have found that Call Ducks are not good parents. They will not hatch eggs, and they will fight with babies. I have seen them try to kill the ducklings. I woould give the ducklings to a broody chicken.
Hmm, my snowy hen is a wonderful mother and my other hen and the drake help in the raising process. I've been bit more times than I'd like to admit recently for looking at her babies. She has a fit if they get more than a foot away from her.

Do you think there's any correlation to whether the momma was hatched in an incubator, or raised by other ducks?
I've often wondered that when people say "my breed X is all terrible mother, but breed Y is great!" and the info is different from the next poster's experience.

i have australian spotted ducks i just got into the bantam ducks this year and love the ducks i have 1 green head male and 3 silver head females and one silver head male and 1 blue head female

You know,I never gave that any thought. I'm not sure if mine were hen hatched or incubator. I know my greys were hen hatched but none of then have ever went broody. The snowy hen pictured came from the VP of the call duck association and the other two came from somewhere in the Dayton area of Ohio. I'm gonna say they ate probably incubator hatched but IDK for sure on that. I'll have to pay attention next year and see what the babies I keep do as far as rearing.
