Barnvelder... doubtful and Deleware roo or hen?

The "Barnie" is about 4 months old and I'm more sure it's female, but it sure doesn't look like a real Barnvelder. What is Phoenix?

Rescued a Deleware from a feed store today... way overcrowded and just sad. Anyway, I asked him was he sure it's a hen and he said yes. In daylight (which the poor thing has never seen) I swear it looks rooish. Please tell me "she" just needs fresh air and time to fill out? The poor Jersey Giant we got came out of the box limping. I separated her and hope she's ok. If we take her back, she'll surely die. Never again.

The more I look at my Barnie, the more I think it's a roo, too. It was the same guy for both the above birds, but the Barnie was much younger. Please tell me I am wrong. It does not crow, there are no saddle feathers yet and feathers all seem curved... but it also doesn't look like a normal, laced Barnvelder, either.

Should I take back the Delaware? I thought cock when I saw it, too... how does he not know it's a boy?!

I’m not an expert, but yeah pretty sure your Delaware is a cockerel. You can see his hackle & saddle feathers coming in, and his tail feathers are long and curved. His comb also looks more developed than a pullet’s would be for his size.

This guy is a moron! Dang. Thanks! I hope the Jersey Giant is ok, because I don't want to have to go back up there. I will try to rehome them, I think. He had WAY too many half grown birds in one coop and they were all looking rough. I knew when he picked the Delaware that it looked way more rooish than it should have. I can see saddle feathers that looked pointed and hackles, too. It's very passive, though, not too bright. LOL!

The Barnie, why does it have no saddle feathers yet? We've had that one since April, so it will make me sad, but we can't keep him. The more I look at pics, though, even I can see it's a classic Barnie roo.

I will take another vote or two if anyone else wants to offer... I have someone that was looking for a rooster, anyway, since he lost one recently.

Are we pretty sure.... especially one the Barnie, since we've had it so much longer? Thanks!

More of the Barnie. I'm stuck that this chicken is at least 15 weeks and has no pointy saddle feathers... did my best, that bird can run!!
