Silly chickens someone's been doing it around 15 minutes and now here's Olympia, boasting away.
Did you know they're actually trying to drive attention away from the nest and to them, to ensure predators will forget the eggs? Olympia, however, stops whenever something yummy is thrust in her face so I better go do that before the neighbors get upset.
(Sorry this is a bit random.)
What's your best egg call story?

Penny jumps up on the table outside the living room window when I'm home and screams her head off, then will go the nest box and wait. If I don't go outside and babysit while she lays her egg she gets back up and screams in the window until she sees me then she goes back to the nest box.

do you take the eggs out of the box as soon as she lays them? One of my hens just laid her first tiny little egg, I had been spying on her, finally noticed she laid it after walking away for 15 or 20minutes, and i swooped it up with excitement! But should I have left it for her to 'have a moment with'? or does it not really matter??

My theory is that it is the nest, itself, that is sacred. My gosh, especially with new layers, they scratch around so much that an egg already in the nestbox isn't really safe.

At least they yell, "Fore!" when they kick the golf balls out!

Now when they lay an egg it may be that they are yelling, "Aft!"

I have a couple of real braggarts... they just can't wait to tell everyone they've laid one down.

AND NOISY!

Almost worse than a roo.

My BR has gotten REALLY chatty over the past couple of days. I've heard her yakking, fussing, talking, and singing pretty constantly. She started today at 4:00a.

Still no eggs. I'm hoping we'll get an egg any day from her.

I unplugged the heat lamp at 7:15a.
