BCM scalped by something?

You'd be amazed, amazed, I tell you, what chickens are capable of surviving.
This is very true. I've had some hens survive shocking predator wounds. Once had a hen get her rump torn into by a coyote, guts visible, the whole nine yards, and (after some surgery to try to keep it all in there) she healed and even started laying again. Same damn coyote came back and got her that summer though.

My pyrenees absolutely HATE hawks. I've seen them leap into the air when they fly by. The copper marans wander, I was thinking the pyrenees interrupted the hawk and then carried my chicken back up to the house and that's where the wetness came from. She has no wounds on her back it's just wet.

6 months ago I came home to a hawk dragging my other BCM by her scalp and trying to fly off with her. The hen made it, the wound was a lot smaller.
If that theory is true, you have a very good dog! It was probably a hawk, then, and just got interrupting. Dogs are seriously the best.

Happy to hear you have the expertise and experience to help her heal. I have to come here to BYC for all my chicken medical advice since I don't have an avian vet anywhere near me. Good luck with your girl. Glad it was such a clean injury.

I would keep her separated and keep the antibiotic ointment on the wound twice a day so it does not dry out. It will eventually heal in time. The skin will granulate in, although it may nit look perfect. Please keep us updated on her recovery with pictures.
