Thank god I got the chooks out of the temp pen and into a real coop. I never in a million years would have thought we would see a bear here. Luckily he just walked on thru and didn't try to break into the coop in the background.

Most bears are smelling the chicken food and looking to add a little fat before hibernation. I've got a couple that are regularly around in the early spring and then again mid/late fall. They disappear during the warmer months as natural food is plentiful at that time.
They sure can ruin a nice coop in very little time.
 
Wow, that's awesome he/she didn't even bother trying! I've seen a few partially or entirely demolished coops from bear.

This was a couple of months ago. They came for the sunflower seeds in the feeder, but now the feeders are strung up in the trees on a pulley, like what's at her feet, so they can't reach them. She got the suet though. :th

We see them a few times a year here and it's always been the sunflower seeds primarily they were after. I think maybe now that they can't get those anymore, they'll be less frequent.

She trusts you to bring her cubs there.The pic with the cubs would make a great calendar Her not so much she is scary looking lol
