I bought some wheat hay straw pellets at Petsmart. Its used for hamsters er, something.

Do you think its ok for chicks? They've been sneezing lately is it from the pellets, like dust in the pellets?

Should I be concerned that they are sneezing?

I was thinking of maybe I would stitch the bedding to the sticky plastic covering people put in their dish cupboards.

I had wood ships before and they kept eating it instead of their food.

SilkieO.,
I myself stayed away from the pellets because there was another thread (What to use on floor of Brooder or something like that ) that said Not to use them... cant remember why...
Hope that helps.
I myself used rice straw (its what is cheap and local from the Sacramento Valley) bedding with DE sprinkled into it for bugs, and it is plenty dusty, but none of the chicks are sneezing (there are 15 of them and they are 9 days old and have been on this bedding the whole time)...

Oh, thanks a lot for your info

I have always used the large pine shavings from TSC without any problems. They do peck at them and do eat some. Not the worst thing I have heard of chickens eating and surviving. Some of the wood pellets are glued together so wouldn't be good although I wouldn't think they would use those for pet bedding. The sneezing could be a sign of something else going on. Is there any discharge when they sneeze? If so I would post in the emergencies/disease forum for more help.

There is no discharge or crusty snot around their nose.

I'm feeding them mash right now its kinda dusty. I have some good scratchers too. So It could be that IDK.

I was wondering maybe their are allergic to the wheat straw in the pellets?

I think your right, tho, I should try my hand in a different forum.

thx
