Hello! I will be buying my chickens for FFA in about a month or so. I will be doing breeder birds for my project, and was wondering what breed would be best? I am a new chicken owner, but I’ve had ducks for years. I also need a breed that is pretty affordable and readily available. Any suggestions?

Cochins are a good mellow sort of breed. Start with the best possible birds you can afford and enlist the guidance of a mentor from the breed. Good luck and enjoy the experience.

Whatever breed you're interested in keeping will be best. No point in keeping birds you're not fond of.

If availability is what you want, just look at what show quality birds are available and pick one of those.
Keep in mind how much effort you want to put into the maintenance of these birds as well. Feathered legs are harder to keep clean, but if you want to do that, great. Some breeds require dubbing. Some breeds are hardier than others. Keep in mind what your priorities are.
