Hello I was wondering if anyone has any links to good leg bands for chicks/ducks/geese that can be used for all at a decent price and is reliable. Thanks !!

I'm using colored zip ties and just started using the plastic bands. I've already seen one come off. Some people have really great methods of using zip ties. I'd like to be able to number my chickens. Some people have mentioned the numbers get worn off the plastic. I've seen metal bands used on chickens on You tube. I'd also be interested in hearing other's experiences and suggestions. :pop

Leg bands have to fit the size of the leg to stay on. A chick band would not fit a goose.
Most people end up using Zip-ties, and keep a eye on them if it's a young bird.

This is my first year banding birds. I've been banding the birds I intend to sell. Colored zip ties for me, with a pair of pointed side cutting pliers to clip the ends, and remove the bands. I find that the chicks initially need a band change every week, then can move to every 2 weeks.

I do like the idea of banding all of the birds in a flock. Especially for keeping track of age. Usually I can tell who was born when, but not always. could use a band on one leg to specify age, and a band on the other leg for other details.

I use colored zipties too...right out of the incubator.
Different leg and colors for each year.
I don't keep my birds past 3 years.
Sometimes multiple colors and/or bands to denote special cricumstances.
Have a list on computer with notes regarding banding ID's.
With practice, I only need to change 3-4 times before 'adult' size is reached.

Great tip about using zip ties on poultry. But my question now is how tight or loose should the ties be for best use? 1/8 inch gap or 1/4"? I want to band young but fully grown Pekin ducks so I can tell them apart and sort them as I need to.

As big/loose as you can leave them without them coming over the foot....it takes some practice.
