Best place to buy bath towels?

I want to replace the majority of our bath towels. They are getting old and ragged. I've looked at the towels china mart aka walmart is selling nowadays and I know that after about the second wash I'd be able to read a newspaper through them.
I'm shopping at jcpenney.com and all their towels now have designer names that tell me nothing about their quality and thickness. How come I can't find good ol' Cannon brand towels anymore?

The best WASHCLOTHS I ever bought were Martha Stuart brand at Kmart YEARS ago. Them suckers are still awesome, its been about 7 years or so since Kmart was in my neighboring town. Maybe look online for Cannon, if your partial to that brand, try Ebay?

I love my hand towels from Restoration Hardware. Good towels last soooo much longer than the cheap ones they're worth the money.

Doesn't seem to matter where I purchase them or how much they cost, ALL of them start ripping after a few months. So I buy cheap and replace more often.

I had to replace all my towels, too, last year. I went to Sears, Penneys, Macy's, Kohl's and couldn't find the right color to go with my bathroom color scheme. Then one day in Walmart I went past the home section to get to the hardware department and I saw they had the exact perfect shade of color towel that I needed. Well, I didn't think too much about them until I picked them up. These were nice towels! Soft, thick, and fluffy (not as fluffy as the $20.00 towels at Dillards, but still real nice) big size not some little dinky things, and they were only $4.00 each!! So, heck if they wear out fast then I'll just buy more. Well, I have been very impressed with them! They have held their color, no fading, no pilling. I have been very pleased with them. I will look on the tag and see what name they have on them. You might want to check them out. I was like you, thought there was no way they would hold up, but they have and they were so reasonable I could buy a bunch including the matching hand towels and washcloths!

In the meantime I've found cannon egyptian cotton towels at sears.com. Don't like the price, but oh well. I intend to order several bath sheets as well. My DH complains about dinky-sized bath towels.

ETA: Walmart is the only store within an hour's drive of our house. The towels we are currently using are a combination of mine and his mom's, both sets bought at JC Penney. His mom has been dead for 5 years, so they really have lasted.

I buy for vacation rental homes and I usually buy Costco towels at about $6 apiece. They hold up very well and they are used a lot.

Mine are from Macy's and we've had them three years and they are still very soft & fluffy.

I love my Martha Stewarts.

But I ALWAYS hate how new towels take several washes before they start being super absorbent. Til then they just sort of smear the water around.

I go to Ross or Tuesday Morning or TJMaxx- the discounters.

Then I buy whatever brand they have, as long as it's thick and fluffy! Works for me.
