Texas thread is HERE

I will do everything I can to keep y'all informed on this. The important thing is that it isn't over yet. Calls to Senator Taylor and the Governor have to come in. If we press, it will get included. I believe this. We still have a small window. Not much, but it still is there.

Please call. Please.

What the heck! They stockpile all this up for two years and wonder why they can't get to it all?
If it Is a bill they should work until everything is resolved.

I called had to leave a message, my wife called on her cell, call on any phone you have and flood their VM! And everyone call again tomorrow.

I'm calling for sure first thing tomorrow. Does anybody know if this subject is being discussed in the Texas thread as well?
There are so many benefits to backyard chickens not only for the eggs but for family things to do together, giving kids responsibility, for relaxation from this stressful world. I want this so bad I live in a suburb of Houston and some of my favorite childhood memories are going to my grandma's house in the country and her letting me go help her in the chicken yard

Any way to get feed store owners to jump on board and help us make calls? They stand to benefit from all us new chicken parents.

Under the Texas Constitution, the legislature is to convene for 140 days of the year, on every odd year. Convening will commence the 2nd Tuesday of January and proceed for 140 calendar days.

This was done way back in the farming days when members of the Senate and the House were made up of farmers who had to tend to their chickens, er, uh, fields, and the growing season. Since Texans back then were not big on government and didn't want pesky HOA's, who are un-elected, non-political bodies to ruin or run their lives, they elected to draft up the constitution in a manner that made both realities.

Times have changed, but the Texas Constitution has not. I think it's time for changes to come.

Things of benefit:

1. Right of the people to sow and reap for food.
2. Right of the people to maintain their homes in peace, safety, and happiness.
3. Right of the people to be free from burdensome and controlling non-political parties who usurp the given rights by duly elected government officials.
4. Right of the people to teach their children the way of the land.
5. Children should be able to learn farming, to include chicken raising, balanced with urban life.
6. Organizations, such as 4H, Girl and Boy Scouts, benefit and educate children and adults on proper care of poultry and other animals. Such a bill as SB1620 promotes healthy learning.
7. Chickens are a good therapeutic means to help people, such as disabled veterans as myself to deal with emotional issues, or as pets that bring joy and happiness.
8. Right of communities to be self supporting in any manner they deem possible. Communities can come together through sharing and caring.

Feel free to add if I missed something.

Its so very frustrating. I got a nice little letter stating my HOa would sue me if I didn't remove my girls. Sure was counting on this Bill. Great. I have sent letters as well. I know they are just chickens but to my 4 yr old they were pets. All 4 of them.

Does your HOA DCCR's have a clause in it allowing 4H animals? Ours does so that is why several residents do have chickens. I imagine 4 is a little young but I don't know. Plus you might "borrow" a 4H kid. :)

That is awful. I would move. It takes awhile but just be looking for a house outside the city with no restrictions, no HOA, etc.
