So 1/2 the black offspring would be pure black & 1/2 of the black offspring would not be pure black?Ml is a melanizer but it's not the only one. There are other melanizers that have been isolated from black as well. But that's why the one without the •E is pure black. He has Ml.
If the male is E/EMl/ml+ and the hen is E^R/E^Rml+/ml+ , that is a viable possibility. So 1/2 the black offspring would be pure black & 1/2 of the black offspring would not be pure black?
It sounds like what I was trying to say, but I had it backwards...I thought the one with the E would be pure black. Thank you for correcting that and for the information
Thank you so much for that information! I'm going to be doing more reading on this. I'm assuming that's why everyone just says "black is black, period", but then you have people saying not to get certain blacks for certain projects or colors, and then there's confusion because they were told black is black period. I'm just trying to understand it all. I forget not everyone is an expert, so I should probably consider my sources more carefully. Thanks again for your helpIf the male is E/EMl/ml+ and the hen is E^R/E^Rml+/ml+ , that is a viable possibility.
There are also other ways you could get that result since there is no way you can no a black bird's genotype by looking at it.
Yeah, black is not simple at all...Thank you so much for that information! I'm going to be doing more reading on this.
