Black chicken with yellow/gold on neck

A brown red rooster would still be called brown red. Though brown red gamefowl roosters are sometimes called BBR, even if it’s not technically correct.
Yes, but I was trying to describe what a Brown Red looks like.

If you're looking at a group of roosters trying to figure out which one matches that hen you want to look for a rooster that looks like a bbr but without wing tips.

How else do you describe a Brown Red rooster?

If you can imagine a brown red hen, a brown red rooster is pretty close. Though I can see where someone who doesn’t know what a “brown red” is would find that helpful.

Brownred rooster and hen.

Any sort of rooster that is black, black with gold leakage, or black with red leakage will produce chicks with a similar coloring. If you want the same body type as well, choose a rounder looking rooster. A brown red cochin would probably be a good choice.

This hen has a rose comb, while brahmas have a pea comb, so not a first generation brahma/cochin cross. She also doesn’t have feathered legs.
Thank you, I will have a look for a brown red rooster. I never knew that brown red was a colour type so I learnt something 🙂
The chooks have been mixed in together for years but I know there has never been a Brahma or Cochin in the flock. At least not a pure one. I used to have pure bantam buff Columbian Wyandottes and a few black Wyandottes with silver necks, but they haven’t been separated from the rest for a long time. There were some Rhode Island reds and your typical ISA brown line as well.
I’d like to start again with some purebreds soon.

Over the years my chicken flock at my parents’ house has become quite mixed. But lately I’ve noticed that there are quite a few bantam hens that look like this one.
This one is by far the nicest though. She is very pretty 🙂
She looks like a bantam wyandotte to me, but I don’t really know.
I’ve never seen a rooster with similar colouring, but I’d like to be able to breed one. What breed does she most look like? And what breed of bantam rooster would be best to mate with her to produce chicks that will look like her when they’re grown?
I have a hen that looks like this. She is Australorp/Brahma mix.
