Hey all, my local feed store is going to be selling black maran sex links. My understanding is that this is a cross between the Black Copper Maran male and Cuckoo Maran female.

Anyone have photos of egg colors this cross produces?

Looking to add 3 chicks this year: BCM, maran sex link, and olive egger. The reasoning for the sex link was so that I could be sure I at least got one dark brown egg layer to my flock. I read somewhere that BCM are harder to sex when chicks—is that true? Thanks all!

My Easter eggers just started laying and I’m pumped! The egg is quite blue and I was hoping for a green…still pretty though! I may go for another olive egger or Easter egger instead of 2 marans…. If I could I’d get several more chickens but my partner would kill me 😅

I have a Black Marans sexlink. She's awesome. These are her eggs when she just started laying at 18 weeks. At almost 2 years old, they are medium size eggs. She's my only hen who goes broody frequently.

French Black Copper Marans can be tricky to sex, yes. I originally believed mine was male the way she combed up. But, was 100% female.
Hi MC,

I have two BCM hybrid chicks about 8 wks old. One I know is a roo and could tell early on based on his body type, feathering, colors and attitude. He also walks taller than the other chick. The other (who I think/hope/pray is a pullet) is completely different in all the aforementioned attributes but she has huge comb and waddles. 😢
BTW, both have feathered legs.

Please take a look and tell me what you think.

My understanding was this cross was sex linked so you would for sure have pullets? I got four recently and they are about 3 weeks old and just starting to get the rust/red speckles on them. I hope they are all pullets! 😍 However one of the four is getting feathered feet 🤔
