Black Sex Link or Black Copper Marans

I got this girl with a Black Copper Marans pullet. The lady said it was a Black Copper Marans but im thinking its a Black Sex Link. Any thoughts?

She's not a typical Black Sex Link as commercial Black Sex Links go and what I generally think of as BSL. She has a black ear lobe (BSL have red) and her comb is black too (BSL have red).

You didn't mention how old she is, but the comb looks pretty small. Is it a rose comb? BCM can have rose combs while a Black Star/Black Sex Link have large single combs.

I agree she doesn't fit the breed standard of BCM either, but she's not a "typical" Black Star.

She's probably a mix...that could be sex linked if the right parents were used...(I believe technically any red based roo over a barred based female gives a black sex link....if I'm remembering that right.)

I have never seen or heard of this and my parents have been doing black copper and blue copper marans for a few years now. Where have you heard that a marans could be a rose comb? As far as I know they only come in single comb.

Ive never heard of a BCM having a rose comb either...she has a single comb....shes 4 months o

BCM should never have rose comb, I don't even think its possible in a pure bred bird.

I'm on my phone, so I can't see well, does she have white feet pads or yellow? That will tell you the difference. BCM should have leg feathering. I did notice your girl has no feathering but there are clean legged Marans out there.

French marans have shank feathering, American marans don't. The marans can also come with black legs or white legs, but yes all marans are single combed.

I think she is a BCM with darker than normal skin pigment.

When she starts to lay you may see her comb and earlobes turn more red...

What do you mean crown? in my experience the pullet's comb will stay shorter until they get older and in one of my lines the pullet comb is dark kinda black until older... if you post pics we could help you better decide what the chick is...

What is throwing me off is the fact that she has so much copper on the front of her neck and hardly any on the back of her neck. The ones I have seen that dont have much on the backside dont have any on the front side.
