Hello! So my black Swedish duck is 6-7 months old at this point. She is normally black but I recently just realized that she is brown! Lol I’m so confused. I attached some pictures. They’re not the best quality but they at least show her feather coloring. The 2 photos were taken maybe 2 months apart. She’s 1 of 3 Swedish chicks we got from tractor supply. 3 of them are blue and Darla is black. Well used to be black. Is this a thing or was she just always going to be brown?? It feels like a silly question.

Black feathers will fade in the sun. Also if you have well water with high iron, high iron can cause black pigments in both feathers and hair to fade.
That makes so much sense!! She doesn’t spend that much time in the sun. The ducks usually sit under the willow trees all day. But we do have well water with high iron. We use softeners for all the drinking water but the hydrants all are just straight well water.
