So, I’m very confused. What’s the different between black and black copper marans? I just bought a breed duo and the top and the hen are both solid black. No copper. Now I’m very confused to as if I got the wrong breed.. worst of all they cost me 75$!! With black marans, do they lay the same color as black copper? Is there a price difference? Any information would be nice. Also, if you were to sell a day old chick, how much would you seek a black maran chick and how much would you sell a black copper chick? Thank you! (Rooster on right, hen on left)

The difference is the copper, BCM have copper neck colouring, depending on the line, it can be more copper or more black. There’s quite a few colours of Marans, BCM, wheaten, blue, cuckoo etc. Egg colour is dependent on the line. Usually, French Marans breeders breed to the French Marans standard, feathered feet and dark eggs, the darker the egg, better the line. There are clean legged Marans, these are bred for production rather than egg colour. For an unsexed Marans chick, of any colour, I wouldn’t pay more than £6 at most.

This was very useful information. Thank you!! How much do suggest I should sell my Rooster for? And perhaps the hen? I’m bad with orices

The darker the egg your hen lays, the more she is worth, in my opinion.
There’s not a good market for chickens in my area so it’d probably seem low, for a standard Marans pair - £20, for a French Marans pair - £45. I’m not sure what that is in other currencies, sorry. What colour are their legs and are they feathered? That’s the second biggest factor affecting their worth

They have slightly feathered legs... I’m not sure about the color. Not home right now. I want to say they were a slate color?

French standard marans should have grey/slate legs and feet and pink feet on the underside. They should be feathered on the leg and outer toe. As far as I’ve learned
