I see all of these posts on blackhead and how to treat it with various medications. I believe I already lost two of my turkeys to blackhead. My question is where are you purchasing the medications? Flagyl, Baytril , etc.
I have no plans on taking my turkeys to a vet.
Thank you!

Metronidazole (Aqua zole) and enrofloxacin (Bayril) will treat blackhead. You can find both medications on ebay. I have been using the water soluble enrofloxacin but you can locate the injectable form online if you prefer that route of administration. I purchased the 60 count 500mg tablets of Aqua zole on ebay. It is marketed for aquarium use but is the same medication a vet would prescribe.

Should I use both medications together? Or use either one?

I use both together. The metronidazole treats the protozoan that causes blackhead. The baytril treats the E.coli infection that is caused when the protozoan burrows through the intestinal wall to get to the liver. No doubt that causes a bacteremia and/or peritonitis.

Thank you — I appreciate all of your help

Can you send me a link for baytril? I only see one seller on eBay and I can’t get it for a month.

Do you believe giving turkeys cayenne pepper works? A lot of forums say it does. We’ve been giving it to them in their food and water since they were babies and they still got blackhead.

Sorry I'm just now seeing this. I cant seem to find the powder on ebay now. But here is some I found on another site. You have a choice to the powder or liquid form on this site. The powder or liquid is good when you want to treat more than one mixed in their water. Jedds would be my choice to purchase from.

Here is another site:

Here is another site with the oral liquid form:

I will keep looking for the site you can purchase the injectable if that is your preferred route of administration. You will have to purchase needles/syringes also. Preferably not the big needles used for cattle or dogs. We use insulin syringes for poultry.
