Blow drying chicks

Does anyone else blow dry their hatchlings and take straight to brooder or am I really just super crazy? Bahaha my granny used to do it. Seems to work out good for me. I wrap them in a fresh towel from the dryer and then use a blow dryer on low setting and gently dry for about a minute. Once they’ve been in the brooder for about 30 min they’re fuzzy!!! It works! Probably an unpopular idea but hey to each their own, right.

Not for taking them out of the incubator, never. However, after they've been in the brooder a few minutes, I have taken one out now and then to clean off a stuck egg shell under warm water. Once I get them clean, then I sit them on a towel and blow dry on low.

It's also good for if you have pasty butts. I've only had a couple. One I just picked off, but once one had a gobbed up butt. I ran it under warm water to get off, then blow-dried it.

Not when they've just hatched. Best to leave them in the incubator to do it themselves. Gives them more time to learn their footing and absorb their yolk nutrients

Yea I don’t blow dry all of them but Same here for the pasty butt and my little sticky ickys that get stuck and I have to help. I gave my little Mohawk kid a blow dry but he is still kinda sticky. He is doing great though and very vocal…. Oh my I’m subconsciously calling the chick a “he”……..

Isn't that funny how we do that? Mine are silkies who can't be sexed for 3-4 months, yet, I'm calling certain ones "him" and "her". Are we ever right? Oh, probably about 50% of the time.

I agree 100 percent with you! But in certain situations it has worked out for me, like little Mohawk kiddo. I mean he isn’t super fluffy but…..he isn’t wet and sticky 4 hours later either. The few other chicks in brooder are cuddling with him and he isn’t playing kickball with my other eggs anymore so it’s a win win for me on this situation. Thanks for interacting!
