Just hatched four today. The chicks are a nice blue color. From what I understand about the genetics of egg shell color, these should lay blue eggs, correct? I thought the blue egg gene is dominant over the white egg gene. Curious what other people's results were with this cross or other ameraucana rooster crossed with white egg laying hen. Are pure bred ameraucana generally homozygous with the blue egg gene or are they more commonly heterozygous?

A true Ameraucana rooster should be pure for the blue egg gene. I've crossed a splash Ameraucana rooster with white eggers (barred Hollands) and the offspring lay pale blue eggs. Years ago I crossed a brown Leghorn with blue egger EEs and got the same results, large pale blue eggs. So you're correct, you should have blue birds that lay blue eggs

Here is a picture of the 4 of them. 1 Darker colored and 3 lighter colored. Not sure how good the blue color shows up in the pictures. Can't wait to see what these look like as adults. They just hatched today. Got them out from brooder for just a bit to take the picture. Their color didn't show up at all with the red heat lamp shining on them.

Hi! I'm wanting to do this same cross and was wondering, since this thread is from the Spring, how your chicks turned out. Is their lacing more defined because of the Andalusian cross? I just started a thread in the breeding to the standard section about this cross and would really appreciate your input there and maybe some pictures shared??? Beautiful babies!!!
