Hey guys! Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I wasn't sure. I need some help deciphering if my chicken is a hen or rooster. I got it as a straight run chick from a hatchery. I've been waiting for a crow but I live in city limits so if it is a rooster he must go. 13 week old Blue Cochin

hmmm, it looks like a hen to me. This is that tricky age, and most of us have been wrong at least once or twice. But I don't see the hackle feathers, or the saddle feathers. Is the bird bigger than the flock mates?

13 weeks, that's around 3 months? It appears to be standard size, I think its a boy. My Cochin cockerels were super slow to mature and get their manly feathers. But, my Cochin hens were also sloooow to mature. And their combs and wattles didn't turn red until just before they started laying. They also weren't that large, even my hens with the biggest combs were smaller than your birds.

It does seem to be a bit bigger than the rest of my hens but this is my only Cochin so I don't have another of the same breed to compare to. I think it's fluff also makes it seem bigger haha

Actually, I just saw it standing right next to the rest of my flock and it's definitely twice the size of even my year and a half old leghorn

I have been leaning towards rooster for some time now. It's comb and wattles developed pretty quickly and are already bright red but I wasn't sure if that's normal for Cochins. It also seems quite cocky and took after my dog the other day, but again it could be a feisty hen. At what age did your roosters begin to crow?
