Also i would love some tips on showing... How to get quality stock in New Zealand?

She is a nice bird. You want blues with semi-thick black lacing on each feather with grayish slate down. I know the only way to get those qualities is to breed black orps for the lacing. Do not do that very often or your birds will get darker. The goal is to have a slate blue feather with a solid line of lacing around each. Breed splash birds in if you want the correct down. I know one lady who owns birds that are well-laced and her only complaint from the judge is they need to be bigger.

I hatched her from some eggs i brought at auction. As i live in town i cannot have a rooster i thought of de crowing one but not sure about that?
i am really keen to breed my own stock rather than buying other peoples fertile eggs. Also the blue orpington has a bent breastbone does that matter?
Do you know how i could find good quality birds in new zealand? or have an tips pre paring her for show?

I do not know any breeder or anyone in New Zealand. Sorry. I am unfamiliar of any New Zealand Standard of Perfection. In the United States, a bird would get docked points if they have bent breast bone. I think that the bent breast bone is genetic. I would try to contact people who have Orpingtons in New Zealand and see what they think of her.

Hey a fellow new zealander :) If she has a bent breast bone, points would be docked for that.

Are you on facebook? As there are a couple of good poultry pages on there, poultry chat nz being one. There are also local groups depending on where you are based. Thjere are heaps of chicken people on there, always willing to help out with info, point you in the right direction for eggs, quality birds ect.

I live in Palmerston North....HBY?
Are you going to the poultry show on 7&8 June?
Also do you know where and when the wairarapa poultry show is? Or any websites that has show info?
Do you know any New Zealand chicken sites eg appletons... or breeders in the lower north island? As I live in town I'm keen to get a rooster but are afraid it would wake the neighbours

;) I considered de crowing the rooster and getting into breeding but are unsure who would do it for a start.
Also I'm looking into getting bantam versions of larger chooks and are REALLY keen to get into showing

.....but only have my one Orpington that was looked over by a shower and they said the bent breastbone was from her perching too young.

Thank You :D

https://www.facebook.com/groups/460806890614628/ - NZ Poultry Chat page, lots of chicken people on here, if you ask about your breed there will be many willing to point you in the right direction, give pointers, put you in touch with breeders ect

https://www.facebook.com/groups/140396116118717/ - NZ Poultry wanted/for sale, many people on there as well that may be able to help you.

I'm down in timaru in the south Is. Is tht the big national show? i wash i was, but can't get up for it sadly. Maybe next year i can make the trip.

Don't know about the show, but if you join the poultry chat page and ask on there, someone will be able to tell you. Also they will be able to answer those questions better than i can, i live rural and have a rooster, but i'm in the process of getting together a breeding flock of araucanas.

The page will also be able to point you in the direction of a local to you page, show club ect. I entered the timaru show for the first time this year and had a blast, learnt heaps, talked to so many knowledgeable people, it was awesome.

hi there, i live in Auckland. This is my little Orpington boy, unfortunately I have to re-home him, I was in tears for two days....Wish the council could change their rules...so I can keep him
