When I was in the chicken run yesterday, I noticed BLUE poop!!! That was the only weird thing about it. Blue. Like, really really blue. Very weird. I didn't see any evidence of worms or diarrhea. They did eat a bunch of kale and red cabbage the day before. Would that do it? It seems like they are all normal now. This ever happen to anyone else?

red cabbage, kale and their regular greeny poop....blue might come out from that.....its all I can come up with that, I've never heard of that to be honest...., very intriguing. I would try that diet again in a week or so and see if it happens again. for now if they seem fine and all is back to normal then its gotta be what they ate.

That's a good idea. I'm going to give them red cabbage and Kale on Sunday and check it out again Monday. Weird thing to do, experimenting with fecal colors.

It's the red cabbage. Your chickens read how to make blue food coloring and want to color their eggs for you.

Yep, my hens have done blue-green poop before. More blue than green, actually. It came from them eating lots of strongly colored dark green leafy stuff, from what I could tell.

ETA: Oh wait, I've also seen deep blue poop when they've eaten lots of blueberries too.

What goes in must come out. I'm betting the combo of cabbage and kale made their poop blue. I gave mine blackberries over the summer and panicked when i found blue poop until I realized what it was from.

My chickens, especially the silkies, LOOOOVE bath time! I have one Silkie roo that I swear thinks he's a duck! He plays with the soap bubbles, sticks his head in the water, stands and flaps his wings then sits down and swishes them ... He grew up with my Khaki Campbell ducks, so I think they brainwashed him. But all the chooks know it's "special attention" time when I bring them into the tub, and the warm air from the blow dryer puts some of them right into a trance. My "duckie" roo will lift his wings for me to dry under them and lay on his back while I dry his tummy. He's an absolute GOOF!! !

I just got on this site, because my chickens poop is aqua blue and dark green. I do have some blue Kale and red cabbage in the garden, so it could be that.. but she also hasnt been feeling well aka not going out just staying in the coop. she is eating and drink ing but not out foraging with the rest. We had black snake 2 days in a row in her nest and one day I caught it with an egg half way down its throat. My husband relocated the snake 2 times. I have not seen it again. But I noticed that the hens foot was swollen, so I bathed the foot. Shes been acting like this now for over a week and I am wondering if the snake may have bitten her??
