Blue Splash Marans

What is the difference between Blue Splash Marans or Splash Copper Marans? I've seen both terms. I currently have some Black Copper and Blue Copper Marans. I have Blue Splash chicks coming later this month. If I put them all together to breed, what will result? Or is the Blue Splash something different from the Black Copper and Blue Copper and they should stay separate?

In layman's terms, blue splash Marans are splash Marans. BBS genes are the same throughout and splash breeds true. Splash Copper Marans are just Black Copper Marans, but splash, lol. Black CopperxSplash Copper would produce 100% Blue Copper Marans. Blue copperxBlue Copper is a lot more complicated and will produce 25% blacks, 25% Splash, and 50% blue.

They are Not the same.

Blue/Splash Marans are based on the Extended Black e allele.
Blue/Splash Copper Marans are based on the ER Birchen e allele.

It's the same difference between Black Marans and Black Copper Marans but with the Blue/Splash mutation.

No they are not. You are looking at blue copper vs. blue, splash vs. splash copper, and black vs. black copper. Although the BBS genes pass on the same, they aren't the same variety of Marans. The above poster explained it well.

Splash x Splash: 100% Splash
Black x Black: 100% Black
Blue x Black: 50% Blue, 50% Black
Blue x Blue: 25% Black, 50% Blue, 25% Splash
Blue x Splash: 50% Splash, 50% Blue

No they are not. You are looking at blue copper vs. blue, splash vs. splash copper, and black vs. black copper. Although the BBS genes pass on the same, they aren't the same variety of Marans. The above poster explained it well.

Depends on what your goals are. You could keep breeding back if you want....but I don't see the point. Breeding two blue coppers together would already result in some Splash coppers, so I see no reason to introduce a Splash Maran. You could develop a sturdy line of BBS Copper Marans just by using the parent stock you have now.
