I disagree with that, I know for a fact that it is not to many hens.

You are welcome to disagree, i know my fertile drop after adding the 3 rd hens. So I run 1 male to 2 hens, and get 95% hatch.

They do pair up in the wild. 1 to 1

Here are my Bob Whites and the Tennesse Jumbos to compare the size. I'm not sure on the Jumbos age but they were laying. The BWs are 26 wks old and laying. Look at the size difference in them. I think I want all Tenn. Jumbos!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else have these?

Anyone else have some Tennessee Jumbos? Is that what those quail are? They are like twice the size of the BWs. Has anyone eaten them.

I'm happy with my flock for now. I definately won't add anymore hens without another roo, but for now, I'm pleased and think they will do for me. I'm so addicted to quail now!!!!!!!!!! I got 15 coturnix quail eggs today and this was me.........

Yep like in chickens some roos can handle 10 to 15 hens, some cant.

I dont have any of the jumbo bobwhites. Just the regular BWs. Well they are actually my 10y/o sons hobby. He loves bobwhite quail.

Looks like i see some typical head picking in the pic's.. territorial hens more than likely causing this till blood is drawn, then the game will be over..

My BW are paired one on one so i don't see bald heads on my breeding ratios from just a male and hen together..

I know colony breeding worked for me in the first year but after that the battle was on between the hens.. Pen space must be great to work with colony breeding and I'm not talking about a typical rabbit hutch size..

Aren't Tennessee reds very aggressive? The McMurray catalog says they'll kill any other bird. You may want to keep your new Bobwhites in a different pen.
