I found this blister that looked like a big pimple on my chicken's breast. She is broody and had been for a while and lost a lot of feathers in that area then the skin went a bit red, now this.

I'm wondering what I can do, and what causes it? I'm doing all the things to reduce broodiness and putting her on the perch each night.

I made a tiny hole and some clear/yellow fluid came out. Not thick at all.

Breast blisters are simply due to pressure on the breastbone (keel) and common in birds who lie down or roost a good deal of the time, or who are exposed to damp or soiled bedding. Some lame birds get them often. They can become abscessed and contain pus. Clean the wound with chlorhexidene or betadine daily, and you can apply plain antibiotic ointment as well. It should clear up when she is not sitting anymore. Avoid any roosts that are rough.

Thank you! I will try these things 😊
