Hey guys!

My chicken Houdini is super breathless. She has been to the vet multiple times. Had a positive bacterial respiratory swab and was treated twice with antibiotics. She hasn't has a voice for about 6 months. Just a whisper when she tries to talk. She now sneezes a dry sneeze and looks breathless taking the time to put her head up and open beak breath. I am wondering what else I can do. No sour crop. She doesn't lay eggs as has a hormone chip in to prevent and she doesn't sound chesty at all. Has maintained her weight. Can anyone offer any advice. I feel the vet will go to expensive scans next and I bet it might be cancer. I can't seem to attach the vidoe

Please help!

Respiratory illness is a chronic disease. It can come and go with mild symptoms or hang on for extended periods with mild to moderate symptoms. Bacteria may be present or may not. It's the bacteria that makes the chicken sick.

Cancer tumors on lungs and heart can cause rattles when the chicken breathes. Tumors will eventually affect the other organs and the chicken will show signs of failing, getting steadily worse.

However, if the chicken is behaving normally except for upper respiratory symptoms, I wouldn't be concerned about cancer at this time. Also, it may not be productive to have the vet run more tests as long as the chicken is mostly behaving normally.
