Thoughts? They are 3 weeks old today.

Are they feathering in barred? The one with darker comb looks like maybe there is white on the head but I can’t tell with the other one.

Barred Rocks have white bars (lines) across their feathers.

Maybe post a picture of the sides of the chicks, so we can see the wing feathers. I can't see any barring in the current pictures. If there is no barring, they are not "barred" anything.

Where did you get them? Maybe they were misidentified?

Ignore the Raisin Bran box 😆 they wouldn’t go up and down the ramp unless it was raised up.
I got them from a small local farm that sells chicks often. The lady that was there didn’t seem knowledgeable though

I don't see any barring, so I'm going to say not Barred Rocks.

I think they might grow up to be solid black, although I'm not positive. Some "black" chickens grow up to have leakage of other colors.

They could be something like a Black Australorp (should have white on the soles of the feet) or a Black Jersey Giant (should have yellow on the soles of the feet), or even one of each (based on what color the toes appear on my monitor.)

If the lady was selling chicks hatched from her own flock, there's also a chance that they are mixes of some sort. If she was selling chicks that were bought from a hatchery, she might have mixed up what kind they were.

The options were
barred rock, kuku maran, Americana, black Jersey giants that she said they “might be”, when I showed them to her she said most likely barred rock. I don’t care either way I’m just curious as to what they are lol. They get them from a hatchery but I don’t know which hatchery

They both have white tips on some of their wing feathers.

Black comb/black feet has more white tips(in the sunlight the comb looks pale), and that one has 2 whitish/gray spots on the head.

The light comb doesn’t have white on the head but does had a light gray

Based upon those breeds, only thing they can be is the Giants and they do fit

Black Jersey Giants are the most likely breed from that list.

Barred Rocks and Cuckoo Marans would have white barring on the feathers, so we can rule them out.

Ameraucanas would have pea combs and puffy muffs & beard on their faces. You definitely do not have those, as yours have single combs and clean faces.

"Americanas" generally come in a mix of colors and patterns but look sort-of like the breed Ameraucana (note the slightly different spelling: hatcheries are trying to confuse people.) They often have pea combs, puffy muffs & beard on their faces, and several colors in their feathers. It might be possible to find two with black feathers, single combs, and no muff/bard, but it would be quite unlikely. If they grow up to lay blue or green eggs, that is what they are.

So we're left with the Black Jersey Giants, which seems reasonable, given the appearance of the chicks.
