For those who breed light Sussex, I have a bit of a dilema. The best Rooster and the best Hen: I'll call them Group A came from the same breeder as hatching eggs and both have too many points on their comb, the only flaw and it's killing me. Now I have good specimens in Group B not related, that are from another breeder's hatching eggs, they all have good combs.

Could I take Hen A and mate it with Rooster B and try to get rid of the defect down the line in time? All advice is much appreciated.

You could, there is a small chance it will not work, but if it is bred in the chicks to have a certain amount over time they should be good

I find it a bit odd, that the breeder I got the eggs from, doesn't seem to know that he has this flaw in his breeding stock. But there are stranger things done under the midnight sun.. His birds are excellent, other than that so obvious flaw. That is why I think this line deserves to have it bred out. Once it's out, they will be excelent examples of the Light Sussex. The two I am talking about are in my profile picture as youngsters.
