Breeding pen Ideas for 4-8 chickens

Does anyone have winter proof breeding pen ideas 4-8 heavy breed chickens in each area having 6 different pens. I am looking for some easier plans with finished pictures. We have had raccoons and skunks dig into coops without concrete or wooden floors. I am looking at the coops off of the ground, but I want to know if they are harder to clean?

Hubby builds these for now. He's currently building four breeding pens in an Amish shed we bought, but this might help with ideas.

We have two roosters usually in this one and around five hens.




If you have a building, I could attach his blueprint. Our new one is 12x20 and will have four 5'x10' hardware cloth pens coming off of it with four 5'x5' mini coops inside.

On the right are the four mini-coops for each breeding pair or trio. They are approximately 5'x5'. He doesn't have the chick doors in, but they'd be over on the right in the middle of each coop. A pen with 4x4s, 2x6s, and 2x4s will be 100% 1/2" hardware cloth will extend out from each.

Those doors he shows he's making out of wood and chicken wire and will be I think 7' tall. Each coop will have a light on a pull string and there's an overhead light as well. His AC notation was one old air conditioner he was planning into the window when we ordered the shed, should it be needed.

Yes, and in some cases, there will be four. A buff rooster with three buff hens is for one pen. The other pens I believe will just have two or three.

The 5'X10' pen is 50 square feet. Each bird should have 10-15 sq feet. These are silkies so can get by on a bit less, but if we put 4 birds in any, that's 12.5 sq ft per bird.

Are you using the same run for all four coops?
