Broken beak... How serious? Update: adjusting well!

I would keep her separated for a couple of weeks so you can make sure she is eating and drinking enough to sustain her as well as give the wound a chance to heal some. After that I would say it would be fine to turn her out; just keep an eye on her. I have a postal scale that I weigh Nugget on...works great...if you have something like that to keep track of her weight. If not, just pick her up about once a week and you can tell if she is keeping weight on. Good luck to you and let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

When it's not tender any more she should be able to eat mash or crumbles.
Here's a Scarlet's beak that was taken off by a Hyacinth. They don't grow back. It's mate has to feed it now.

Well this morning she is about the same. Clucking at me for the last hour because she want's out of her crate... That's a good sign, right. How much water should she be drinking and does water in grits and oatmeal, etc. count?

Chickens LOVE cheese!

Also, consider a water bottle for her so all she has to do to get water is to tap it gently with her beak, top or bottom. If you don't have the red water nipples, you can try a rabbit or hamster water bottle and place a piece of red tape around the bottom of the water tube to attract her to it.

Thanks! That's great advice! I will try and get one for her tomorrow!!!
She keeps spilling her water anyway since I am trying to give her a deep dish to make it easier. I think she gets frustrated and kicks it over on purpose.

I have a rooster with a broken beak, missing the same amount as yours.
Let's just say, parrot accident.
When it first happened, I flipped out. I tried glueing on a fake fingernail.
He put up with it, but it loosened up after a few days.
Finally after a few weeks, I gave up on it, too much stress for both of us, reglueing it on, and making more nail-beaks.
He gets along just fine without it, I feed him in a deep bowl, and have a separate bowl, I give him moistened dog/cat chow.
It's been a few months. He gets along fine!
Yours should be ok, too.
