Does anyone have a recommendation for a good heat lamp with temperature control? It looked like I am going to have to build a brooder that will comfortably hold 15 to 18 chicks. Nothing on Amazon that is big enough gets decent reviews and for the price, I’m thinking I could build my own. What I’m running into, is not finding a heat source that has a probe and temperature control adjustment. My chicks are due to hatch in 7-8 days.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have used the lamp over large bins with every batch of 2 or 3 day old chicks I have purchased.

But for chicks I am incubating, I was wanting a fully enclosed and heated brooder.

I am a retired union carpenter. I built my coop and run so I have the skills to build a brooder. I just can’t find the heater I want🤷‍♀️

I think you are looking at it wrong. The entire brooder does not need to be one perfect temperature. You need one spot that is warm enough in the coldest of temperatures and another spot that is cool enough in the warmest temperatures. Whether you are brooding indoors in a climate controlled area or outside subject to temperature swings, keep it simple. My chicks spend a lot of time in the cooler parts of the brooder but go back to the warm spot when they need to warm up. They can handle that.

You'll have to check out the different models but maybe an Inkbird thermostat.
Plug your regular light into the outlet and it gets its readings from the probe.
