Thank you, this is very helpful!
The people here have been amazing , I’m not sure all the questions to ask but everyone that I have even thought of has been answered , y’all are truly knowledgeable and extremely helpful and I just wanted to say thank you for not making beginners feel dumb but just friends helping friends and in this world you don’t see much of that anymore and it’s awesome thank everyone

I just got a ChickCozy Brooder plate that has a temperature dial. My chicks are 3 days old so I set it to 95 degrees but the plate is so hot to the touch and the space underneath is not very warm at all. Does anybody have suggestions? I’m thinking of just keep rolling with the heat lamp. The plate being so hot is concerning as well as the space underneath not being very warm at all.

Those plates are not designed to provide radiant heat. The chicks gain heat by direct contact, just as they would from their mothers. I'm sorry I can't advise you as to what temperature to set it at.
I don't use heat plates, I use heating pads so I just set it to "high" for the first week. Both work by direct contact.

I've never measured the temperature, I use my hand to test it. If it's hot enough that you feel warmth when in direct contact with it, but it's not so hot that you can't safely hold your hand on it, that's perfect IMO. If setting this plate at 95 is making it so hot that you can't hold your hand on it, I'd dial it down a little and try again.
