I have a broody hen. It's her second year going broody so I thought Id get her some baby chicks. I got them, put them under her late last night, removed the eggs and she took the babies.

This morning I went out, shes in the run clucking like she's still broody, but the babies are running around in the coop. I scoop them up, their feet are cold so I quickly get them in the brooder.

I go back out and my broody is back in a nesting box, growling and carrying on. I booted her out several times, she went right back in.

Should I try again tonight or is she just a bad momma and I need to break her while raising the chicks in the brooder?

I'd put the chicks back under her and confine her to the coop. Sounds like the chicks need to imprint on her. How old are the chicks?

How long has she been broody? This would work better if it was closer to the three week natural hatching time period for chickens.

2 weeks going into 3. Ive had hens accept chicks a few days into being broody, Ive just never had one accept them at night and leave them in the morning.

I don't have a way to confine just her to the coop, could I move her to the brooder?
