Hello,

My Buff Orpington hen quit laying eggs altogether. I have been incubating eggs(With some success) and I would like some off her babies. She is about 2 years old, and I have a barred rock hen that is still laying that is the same age. In the morning I have to get her off her roost so she can peck around with the other chickens. My rooster does seem to like her better than some of my other hens. I then thought that she was broody, I put her in a separate pen from the other chickens, and I put golf balls under her, to see if she was broody. I came down the next morning and the golf balls are spread around the pen.
Is there anything I can do to get her laying again? Or should she go in the pot?
Any feed back is helpful

Thanks

I find my buff Orpingtons take breaks after laying for a few months. It's normal for the breed here. You can check for hidden nests, but generally my experiences with buff Orpingtons is it's normal for them to go out of lay for a month or two during the second and third year. By year 4 production drops even more. It's up to you whether you want to butcher or not.
