This monday I found 8 new little chicks roaming through the grass, and most of them looked healthy enough. Even if one of them looked a little weak, the next day all of them were really lively. Today we're down to 4, and when I went to remove the little bodies I noticed they were crawling with dozens of these little bugs, which mama chicken also had. What are these!? I'm familiar with scaly leg mites, but in the years I have raised chickens I had never seen such a thing, they almost look like ticks but the size of a sugar grain or smaller. In the context of the pandemic my whole city is under lockdown, and I don't have a clue how to treat them or where to get some sort of medicine ¦C

We decided to remove them from their old nest and build a new, non infected one, but I don't know what else can I do for them. Help!

Do you have a TSC in your town (or within driving distance?) They are still doing curbside deliveries. Get some poultry dust.

It may be a little tricky here in the country I live, the closest thing I could find some of that might be a pet store or a veterinarian. I will ask my neighbors first as some of them have raised chickens for longer than I have lived here.

Oh, didn't realize you weren't here. Well, I hope your neighbors can give advice.

Are you able to order stuff from Amazon or other online places where you live?

Amazon is something we just can dream of :barnie
We do indeed have online markets where to search this kind of stuff, but delivery took a huge toll with the pandemic, so when the products I order show up (a week later) it will definitely be too late for these little ones

Well in fact, this poultry dust you mentioned, I don't even know what name it has in spanish so I can look it up locally :S

Well, the name of the chemical in poultry dust is Permethrin. Maybe try searching for that? Chemical names are the same across languages, right?

My neighbors gave me a big bucket of ash and we dusted by hand the infected chickens. We'll see how it goes as this seems to be the stuff that has worked over here. While dusting the 4 little chicks we noticed there was next to no bugs present anymore.
