Hi I extracted my girl foot with bumble foot. I used tetracycline to give her. But all the sudden her foot is so swollen?? I’m not sure how when she was fine and it was decreasing. Now it’s so swollen. I’m not sure what to do.

That looks really bad, have you thought about taking her to the vet? Hopefully someone more experienced can help you if you cannot take her to the vet. :(

There’s no avian vet near me :( . I been giving her tetracycline antibiotics oral now to help. Bc it’s obvious there’s an infection after I extracted it. I followed how I usually extract, and this time used a sterile knife and betadine soak before extracting. she was getting better since it was on both feet. Just the next two days changing the wrap it was swollen and it keeps getting bigger. I soak her in espom salt to help but it looks so bad. im not sure if the infection has reached her leg bc now shes pooping a light yellow poop.

@Wyorp Rock @azygous may have some helpful advice for you. I’m sorry it’s gotten worse, hopefully the antibiotics kick in. Maybe the antibiotics are the reason for the change in her droppings. Do you have a photo of the bottom of her foot or the point of the surgery you performed?

I think there may be an area of white on the edge there, could it be pus still in there maybe?

That does look nasty. When I have a stubborn infection on myself or a chicken, I resort to hot compresses to draw out the infection. It is more focused than soaking and the heat will kill a substantial amount of bacteria on its own.

Run some hot water that is as hot as you can stand without burning your hand. Or use a thermometer. Tissue begins to burn at 108F. Keep refreshing the water to maintain it as hot as you can to be most effective.

Use a small cloth dipped in the hot water and apply it to the wound for a few minutes until the cloth cools, then refresh.

Even if you could seek the help of a non-avian vet at this point, it could be helpful. Our vets in town are not avian, but I would trust them to assess something like this just due to the nature of it, and especially because it’s been going on this long. They could possibly give you something for pain and even maybe a stronger antibiotic.

It just looks so bad, now it’s more swollen, I started doing that. Hot water of 108 and espom salt and bentadine. I check the wound it doesn’t look good. I check the wound and it looks dark as dead tissue. She’s so swollen. Her other feet it fine. Idk how this happen. She had this issue for a while always getting them. I always extract them bc it had the scab. The bad foot had the scab and I pop it. Now it’s so bad. I’m really deciding to euthanize her.
