bumblefoot question

So do you feel any residual pus in her foot? Did the swelling go down at all?

Any hidden entry points that could’ve been overlooked? Make sure to check all the little crevices really thoroughly. I can’t exactly tell from the picture but is it swollen a bit right above her foot at her little ankle area?

I know you said her right foot pad is pink from cleaning, but there isn’t a little cut is there?View attachment 3944656

Sorry, so many questions. Just trying to help see what would cause that swelling. From what you’re saying it seems like you were able to treat the bumblefoot effectively and then her foot just swelled up. So what I’m thinking is she either has got to have another one somewhere or some of the infection got left in there. What do you think?
no worries. No, I don't feel any kind of nodule in her foot pad. She doesn't wince when I squeeze on it either like she did when I was treating the bumble. I originally thought that was maybe what it was, but it also isn't warm to the touch at all. It is swollen, but soft. The spot you circled is where her bumble was. What looks like a cut is actually the border of her bumble that has healed over. The Hibiclens pink liquid just settled around the healing border of the skin. When I looked at the pic after I took it I thought the same thing, so I re-examined her foot and there isn't an open cut. Yes, I agree her ankle on the affected foot is swollen also. I originally thought maybe I had another girl with a sprain, but then I looked at her foot pad and noticed the swelling on that foot.

I am not sure if Doxycycline is the correct medication for her or if I should even give her anything at all. Would like some advice on that from anyone who has had a similar issue.

That’s odd that two of them would have swollen ankles/foot pad. I’m sorry I wish I could recommend use of the antibiotic. Do they have any respiratory symptoms?

The other one that had a limp had a sprain. She's better now. No bumbles on her. This girl started limping & swelling after her bumble appeared to be healed. None of my girls have any respiratory issues or symptoms at all.

So strange. Let’s ask for recommendations from @Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock @azygous

Can you recommend if an antibiotic should be used or what the next course of action should be?

I do not recommend an antibiotic be used unless you're pretty sure what it is you're treating. In other words, if there are obvious symptoms of infection, even if the specific bacterium can't be identified, I will start the antibiotic. That isn't the case here.

What I would recommend is to give this hen daily soaks in Epsom salts as that will encourage increased blood flow to the affected area, and that has a good chance of reducing the pain and swelling. In addition, you can give half an ibuprofen tablet twice a day to reduce pain inflammation, or one whole chewable aspirin twice a day.

Ok, that sounds like a good plan. I was hesitant to use the antibiotic since the foot itself did not feel warm to the touch. I may cut some oregano and offer it to her more often than they snack on it. Maybe it's just swollen from the healing process even though the bumble really was not very deep. Beginning level at most, since I check my girls weekly or bi-weekly for it. I am sure that's probably unnecessary since we have sand in the run, but my girls seem to enjoy the special attention, well, except for this particular girl, but I think now she's getting used to it. lol
