Hi my name Arianne and I have a bumblefoot problem I need help with please. So here I have before extraction and after. I got a huge kernel out and thought the job was done but the top of the toe is still really swollen and I don’t know now whether to go back in threw the hole which has now scabbed over or lance the top.? Would really appreciate some advise please, thankyou

How long ago did you do the extraction on the bottom of the foot? Did it swell more after?
I personally would go through the bottom again first, see what you can get out. You may need to do some squeezing, and using an oral syringe to flush it out may help. Use some chlorhexidine solution (hibiclens) or a diluted betadine solution to flush. Pictures after that, before you bandage, would be good. It may bleed a little, but it shouldn't be a lot, have some gauze or paper towels handy for if you need it. You can stop and put pressure on it to stop bleeding if needed, before resuming. It may not bleed at all. Often you can feel bits of pus/infection in there as hard bits that shouldn't be there. Sometimes it can take a fair bit of manipulation to get it all out. Make sure you work on those area's between the toes as well, squeezing and pressing to see what you can get out. If any remains inside, it will continue to regenerate.

It’s been 2 weeks now. I did use iodine after extraction and wrapped. It did swell more after but just thought it was because I did do a lot of squeezing and it did bleed but not much. She actually had it in both feet and the left foot is absolutely fine, completely heard. I also used vetericyn and vetsalve after care. Ok will go in through same hole today and document. Thankyou for the quick reply.

If you find more gunk in there, and are not sure you are getting it all, you can pack the hole with sugardine and then bandage. It will need to be repacked daily, and cleaned again daily until it stops generating pus. Sugardine is just plain white sugar mixed with betadine to make a paste, I have had very good results with it on some stubborn bumblefoot cases. I will link to a post I did on it's use, with a picture and a video on sugardine, see post #8 here:

If you have any lavender, turmeric, or eucalyptus that's going to majorly help with the swelling. The lavender will also kill any bacteria that you can't get out of that hole.

That’s good to know thankyou, I didn’t know that. Well I think it’s been a success this time. Got a lot of pus and 2 big chunks of kernel. Didn’t bleed much and she was so good bless. The bump has completely deflated so it’s got to be all out hasn’t it. Cleaned out with iodine an bandaged. Fingers crossed this is the end of it for her
