So my rooster was recently diagnosed with Bumblefoot. I just wanted to post the antibiotic that was prescribed for him. My son and I can really only do it once daily because I leave for work so early. So it has to be evenings.

I work in vetmed the doctor told me to try to get this compounded

See if you can get trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole compounded to 400mg/mL

Then give 0.25mL by mouth once daily.

If not, try 200mg/ml and do 0.5

She also told me Metacam or Meloxicam is dosed alittle higher for avians than for cats and dogs. An exotics specialist told her that.

I was giving liquid Metacam 0.75mL by mouth once daily for pain and inflammation. I have to get more I ran out today. But he did fine on it.

Just wanted to share this because some posts I read people were worried about doses that were higher and what antibiotics to use.

Good to know about what your vet prescribed, but I think your Meloxicam dosage seems too high.

Yea he is not by any means a small rooster, he makes the other rooster look like he’s a dwarf. Before he was diagnosed I thought maybe he had a soft tissue injury in his foot because he is constantly making sure the other rooster doesn’t step out of line.

We have a book at work I am going to look at it and take a pic of dosages and post it here.

This is a veterinary website veterinarians across the country use to get information or double check information it has medication dosing including meloxicam. We were told by an exotics specialist last year some time meloxicam for chickens was 0.50 mg/kg that was when my bosses parents chickens were diagnosed with Mareks disease

Hope this helps.

The last upload is from the plumbs veterinary drug handbook. Might as well be the holy grail for them.

The first 4 are from a little pocket book and do not have all the medications listed a bird can take. It is just something I added so if anyone needed it they would have it.
