Can anyone tell me or find anything about backyard chickens in butler county ohio? I've searched every way i know how, but keep coming up empty handed! I want some good brown eggs! FRESH!

You need to find out if you are located in a platted subdivision. State law permits agriculture on lots of more than 1 acre but allows zoning authorities to regulate animals on lots between 1 and 5 acres. More than 5 acres you can have any animals you want under state law.

Hi have you found out any more information or started keeping chickens? I too live in Butler county. Neighbors are kind of close so Im wondering if youve run into any problems.

I am in West Chester Township in Butler County. I was cited last week for my 9 hens. The ordinance states that one cannot engage in poultry husbandry nor keep farm animals. Because we have no roosters and are not breeding poultry and because chickens are poultry and not farm animals, I do not feel that we are in violation. The township has used this ordinance many times to force out chickens so I am beginning the process of organizing to have the zoning codes clarified to specifically allow for backyard chickens. If you are interested in joining this effort, please join us on Facebook at West Chester Chicken Lovers. The local news ran a piece about the situation last night. Here is the link:
